Picture the scene. You're working at McDonalds. You're 19. This is your first job and you have been there 8 months. You hate it. You feel like you're overworked, you're tired, you feel like you're not earning enough money for what you do. You ask your boss for a pay-rise, and get told no. You quit. You work somewhere else, and this pattern continues forever.

You discover communism. You learn about how "it works in theory." You start to tell your friends about how good it is. You don't take into account the greed of people. You dedicate all your free time preaching about communism. You enjoy Tumblr. You post on social media about how the government should change. The government doesn't listen.

You decide to take matters into your own hands. You join anonymous. You buy the Guy Fawkes mask and buy into capitalism. You protest. You get bitter. You wonder how the top 1% can sleep at night. They sleep well, in a far more expensive bed than you do. Probably a water-bed in a skyline apartment in London. Maybe Manchester.

You become upset. You feel horrified at the state of the world. You start to hate those around you. You blame the government for your lack of success. You blame big business for why you are poor. You lie in bed. All day. All week. Your benefits barely cover your rent. You look in the mirror. You're now 26, and you've gone nowhere.

Now picture the scene. You're working at McDonalds. You're 19. This is your first job and you have been there 8 months. You hate it. You feel like you're overworked, you're tired, you feel like you're not earning enough money for what you do. You ask your boss for a pay-rise, and get told no. You quit. You realise that you don't want to go through the same pattern again.

You discover the Job Centre. You learn about apprenticeships. You join evening classes. You buy a book about capitalism. You learn. You get better. You wonder how you can become one of the top 1%. You dream of an expensive bed. Maybe a water-bed, situated in a skyline apartment in London. Maybe Manchester.

You become motivated. You feel optimistic about the state of the world. You start to work towards your success. You start a business and start to become rich. You go to work. All day. 5 days a week. The benefits of working more than cover your rent. You look in the mirror. You're only 26, and you've still got so far to go.

We all like a lie-in. We all wish we could be rich enough to be in that top 1% To be able to work from home. 12 hours a week. To retire at 50, or even 40. We all feel we deserve it.

It doesn't happen to everyone, it doesn't happen to most people, and it probably won't happen to you. Not if you lie in bed all day. The people who are in the top 1% are there for a reason. Some of them were born into it, which most people think is unfair, but some people worked their way up. It won't happen to you if you don't want it. If you don't try to reach it. Even if you aren't born into it, maybe your children or your grandchildren might be.

Even if you don't make it to that top 1%, you might make it to the top 3%, or the top 5%. Even if you make it to the top 10%, you're still living better than 90% of people.

You've just got to work for it.
