GIF work - taking the piss

This is my final GIF for the self-portraiture module. I took big amounts of influence from Vivian Maier’s self-portrait work from 1955-1965. I loved the honesty of it all, and there was one picture in particular that I took inspiration from.

I loved the concept of photography in a public bathroom. I like the idea of taking photographs somewhere quite intrusive and personal for other people.

Because of this (amongst other inspiration) I decided for my self-portrait GIF to be entirely photographed in public bathrooms. In Vivian’s other work she always looks focussed and towards the lens of the camera, seemingly ignoring the world and people around her. I made sure that when photographing mine I did not pay any attention to anyone else, and didn’t explain to anyone what I was doing in order to reassure them or anything like that. Here is my GIF.
