I used to play underwater hockey, and won the nationals with an under 16’s team.

I started the sport when I was 12, as my friend introduced me to it. It was a sport I picked up fairly quickly. I learnt how to swim underwater for prolonged periods of time, and how to move the puck effectively so that it was harder to be tackled. After coming 2nd in our first national team to the dreaded Orkney team (who we questioned whether or not they were actually under 16,) we trained hard to improve our game. The year after when I was 14 we actually won the entire competition for the under 16’s category. We then slept in a scout hut overnight before heading back the next day, with our medals in hand.

The highlight of the trip was seeing a locked up bike on the way in, and on the way out seeing the wheel of the bike attached to the lock whilst the rest of the bike had been stolen. Only in Loughborough have I seen this happen.
